Next week, students can choose who will represent them in the Student Council during the next academic year. Three parties compete for twelve seats on the council. VeSte (with top candidate Sterre Hoek van Dijke, currently holding 7 seats), S&I (top candidate Stefanus Mega Prabawa, with 4 seats) and CSF (leading candidate Joël Kampen, currently holding 1 seat). Resource interviews the candidates about their plans. Today, part 1: Verenigde Studenten (United Students, VeSte): Sterre Hoek van Dijke, bachelor student of Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning.

‘Three years ago, I moved to Wageningen from Rotterdam to study. I immediately became a member of the students’ association KSV Franciscus and the study association Genius Loci. I have now completed three years of my studies, half of which in times of corona. I am also a member of my field’s programme committee, in which I collaborate with students and teachers to ensure the programme goes as planned. This position put me in close contact with VeSte, and that’s how it all began.’

‘In the Student Council, you are involved in the university’s policy. You support the students’ rights in issues such as quality of education, resit policies etc. I intend to support small-scale education because this is one of the reasons I chose Wageningen. Moreover, I feel that as much education as possible should take place on the campus, corona allowing.’

Student life

‘VeSte favours an active student life. That is more than merely studying, but includes sports, parties and other activities. We think a large portion of your development takes place outside of the lecture hall. The student loan system puts a lot of pressure on students to complete their education as fast as they can. There is this little voice in your head saying: “The bills are piling up; study faster!” This causes a threshold preventing you from developing yourself outside of your studies. I hope we can maintain a healthy balance in this regard. After all, there is more than just studying.’

On 02 June 2021, every student that is entitled to vote will receive an email from WebElect or the university with a link to their electronic ballot. By means of this electronic ballot, the student can select one of the candidates and vote. Read more about the student council
