The first edition of the festival was held at Torckpark but had to move due to noise complaints. That’s why the second edition took place at Rijnhaven. PopUPop, the organiser of the festival, hoped to host it there again this year. However, that site is not available this year as it is being used as a storage for building materials. Following a hunt for a new location, the festival will now settle on the grounds of rowing club Argo.
Two months
“Time was running out,” says Kallen, ‘because we actually wanted to start booking acts in January. Now we have about two months left to prepare it all. That’s not much for a festival.’
Still, he is confident it will be a successful edition. ‘The site at Argo is nicely located by the water and it is surrounded by trees. Certain facilities are already in place, which takes work off our hands. For example, we don’t have to arrange a big tent as a backstage because we can use Argo’s indoor space for that. Facilities such as the bar and electricity are also there.’ The venue can accommodate around 1,500 visitors. ‘About as many as came to the first two editions, so that’s just right.’
Danceable festival
The 0317 Festival – as the name suggests – offers plenty of space for Wageningen artists. ‘We collaborate with local DJ initiatives, such as MiniCulture and Grassroots Bass Collective,’ says Kallen. ‘That has been the case since day one. Together with them, we look at how we are going to set up the festival grounds. We also want to offer a stage to Campus Radio and Wageningen Culture Collective. We will try to create an intimate atmosphere at the stages. All in all, it should be a danceable festival.’
Ticket sales for the festival, which takes place on 14 June, started last Tuesday.
