This year’s 0317 Festival to be held in harbour

Preparations for the second outdoor edition of the Wageningen 0317 Festival on Saturday, 22 June, are well underway. The festival will be moved from the Torckpark to the Rhine harbour, and the programme includes live acts and DJs.

The 0317 Festival’s first edition -organised by popUPop- benefited from Woetstok, which was held the previous day, enabling the 0317 Festival to use the gates, speakers, stage and porta potties. No such luck this year. ‘There were many complaints from residents last year. Understandable, the event was in the city centre’, says Dirk Beukers, a student of Urban Environmental Management and one of the regular popUPop team members. Hence, the festival will be moved to the Rhine harbour this year. Fewer residents, more space. ‘We had around two thousand attendants last year, and that number could easily reach three thousand this year.’

Large stage

The concept behind the 0317 festival remains unaltered. ‘We will have a large stage for performers, with acts that are similar to the ones we programmed last year’, Beukers says. ‘We think Afro funk, perhaps some hip-hop and electronic music. We prefer having a band on the large stage, not just a single person holding a mic and a DJ.’ There is room for DJs on the smaller stage, for example, from Wageningen collectives MiniCulture and the Grassroots Bass Collective.’

What acts may we expect in Wageningen this year? ‘Not all of the contracts have been signed yet, so I’, afraid I cannot disclose too much. However, I can say that Julia Sabaté is expected to perform. She and her band play electronic pop music. We will focus on a varied programme with a wide range of genres. That is what I like about the 0317 Festival: the line-up is different from what you see at the standard festivals.’
