Student association Pyrus’ annual soil drilling championships are to be held this evening.

Once again, 120 student teams have entered the championships. Additionally, 20 professional teams will join. This year’s theme is “The Lord of the Drills”. The teams will compete for the fastest drill in a sugar beet field near the Haarweg.

Professor Edelman’s grandson visited the event last year. Edelman invented the Edelman drill and served as a professor at Wageningen Agricultural University College from 1933 to 1964. His grandson assured the organisers that an Edelman family team would enter the competition this year. And, sure enough, Team Edelman, led by team captain Stijn Edelman, features on the list under number 27.
