Although there is still a waiting period of six to eight weeks, WUR’s student psychologists are available to students once again. ‘We expect to catch up soon,’ says Door van der Sloot, student welfare manager the Student Service Centre.

At the end of 2019, the team of student psychologists was temporarily understaffed, while at the same time there was an influx of new applications. ‘When the waiting list hit the one-hundred mark, we said: Stop, we can no longer handle this,’ Van der Sloot told Resource earlier. Thus, a temporary stop on new applications was implemented and alternative measures were taken, such as contracting independent psychologists.

The team of student psychologists is expected to grow from 3.2 fte to 4.8 fte (fulltime equivalent). Furthermore, a training centre is planned for May or June, where students may follow courses in how to overcome stress, fear of failure and procrastination and on how to structure their workload. Single crash courses are already offered on short notice.
