Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Stef Blok wrote a letter (available in Dutch) to the Dutch Parliament stating that in a ‘no-deal’ scenario on 30 March, current British students in the Netherlands will retain their right to student grants. Moreover, they will not be required to pay more than the statutory tuition fee. However, they will have to satisfy all other requirements for EU citizens.
In the event of a ‘no deal’, British students coming to the Netherlands after Brexit will be treated as citizens from outside the European Economic Area. Like students from China, for example, they will have to pay the higher institutional tuition fee and will not receive any grants.
The British Parliament will decide on Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit deal proposal on 15 January. The vote was planned for last December but was delayed due to PM May fearing too little support for her plans.
