I still remember Arohi from a year ago: curious, a little confused, interning at a meadery, and constantly in dilemma between staying in India and pursuing a master’s degree abroad. That version of me has completely changed. Eventually, I gathered the courage to follow through with my dream of studying overseas. It came with mixed emotions – excitement, fear, and uncertainty.
Coming from India, the idea of stepping outside my comfort zone and leaving home was daunting. I knew I wanted to study, but I hadn’t decided on the country, duration, specialization – nothing at all! Then one day, in a conversation, the Netherlands came up. Of course, when it comes to the Netherlands and food technology, Wageningen University & Research (WUR) stands out as the best. That was it – I found my direction.
The Netherlands, with its scenic beauty and calm charm, felt like the right place. I was thrilled to start my journey at WUR. When I finally arrived in Wageningen, I was lucky to get a great student house – my room is on the 17th floor, west-facing, with a wide window that catches the most magical sunsets. I moved here with three of my Indian friends, and we instantly began exploring our surroundings.
Looking back, I feel proud of the leap I took
Though it was summer when we arrived, the weather felt unfamiliar to us. It took a while to adjust – not just to the climate, but also to the culture, the pace, and the people. But in time, everything started falling into place. After a month of settling in and soaking in the new experiences, the academic journey began.
Looking back, I feel proud of the leap I took. From confusion to clarity, hesitation to courage – I have grown immensely. Wageningen didn’t just get a new student; it got a version of me that’s stronger, more confident, and ready to take on the world.
