Following the first Freedom Tours Wageningen walk at the end of June, the first edition specifically for WUR employees is scheduled for 29 August.
The walk is an approximately two-hour route through the city of Wageningen that aims to make people think about what freedom means today, and for whom – this tour looks at freedom through the lens of gender and sexuality. Don’t expect a standard city walk; reflection and dialogue play an important role along the way.
The tour was developed by a diverse group of Wageningen people: from the city, the campus and the asylum seekers’ centre. They were led by initiator Meghann Ormond, associate professor of Cultural Geography. Other WUR members also played a key role in its creation, including cultural geographer Chizu Sato, students from the master Tourism, Society & Environment and PhD candidates from different science groups’, says Alejandra Guijo Bermejo, who is involved in the Tour on behalf of the Diversity & Inclusion team.
Space for reflection
‘We hope that Freedom Tours helps as an ongoing resource to create awareness and have a space for reflection. By offering it to colleagues, we also expect that some teachers see it as a good resource for their courses’, she explains.
Participation is free of charge; registration is required. In the course of the year, more tour editions specifically for WUR staff will follow. The dates can be found on the D&I group page on intranet.
