Olmer Tutein Nolthenius (22) was a student council member on behalf of VeSte last year. Next academic year, he will move to Utrecht. ‘At the ISO, we represent all students in the Netherlands.’

He first came into contact with the Interstedelijk Studenten Overleg as VeSte’s national representative, says Tutein Nolthenius. ‘It is a nice organization that represents the interests of all students in the Netherlands. Students who sit on university representative bodies, like the student councils, come to Utrecht every now and then to formulate shared opinions on various topics. The ISO then discusses these with the Ministry of Education and politicians. Currently, for example, political parties are busy writing party manifestos for the upcoming elections. We indicate to them what is important for students.’

Tutein Nolthenius will be a general board member. ‘That means I will have time to deal with different topics. Among other things, I will look at how to strengthen participation councils at universities and how to increase student enthusiasm for it.’  He will also focus on internationalisation and the Erasmus programme. ‘And I am also looking at the link between education and the labour market. For example, there should be a statutory internship allowance and we want measures to prevent internship discrimination.’

His board year started as of June 28.
