That is when Sports Centre de Bongerd reopens for fitness and a number of indoor activities. And, you can also wind down after your workout on the outdoor terrace.

In March, students and employees under 27 years old were once again welcome at the sports centre for outdoor activities. As of Wednesday, the more “senior” members are also welcome for outdoor training in groups of up to thirty participants. Moreover, indoor sports that allow you to maintain a 1.5-metre distance and can be practised in groups of two, such as badminton or climbing, will also start. The head of the sports centre, Henri ten Klooster, is pleasantly surprised. ‘This is a step in the right direction! We are delighted to be able to reopen the gym and start with a number of indoor activities again. We hope to be able to offer group workouts again in the next round of measures being lifted.’

Shower at home

Changing and showering is still not possible at the sports centre, and participants must wait outside to be picked up by their instructor. Ten Klooster: ‘however, everyone was already accustomed to this procedure. You enter as a group, keeping 1.5 metres apart, and you leave the building through the emergency exit after your workout. Thus, we have one-way traffic in the entire building.’

The gym will reopen for customers who book a timeslot. The timeslots are ninety minutes, 75 minutes to work out, and fifteen minutes to switch groups. ‘We use that time to wipe down all the machines. In addition, spraying down the machines after use is compulsory. There are disinfectants available throughout the gym so that customers can clean all the materials they have touched after use.’

Thirsty or hungry after your workout? The Sports Pub outdoor terrace is open from 16.00-20.00 p.m. as of Wednesday.
