Meet our new blogger: Aarzoo Kohra

‘There are canals everywhere; that’s super beautiful to me. Water attracts life.’
Aarzoo Kohra

Aarzoo Kohra (23) came to Wageningen to start her Master’s in Plant Sciences In August 2019. After a hectic year, in which she flew back to India in the first lockdown and returned to Wageningen in the summer, she is currently finishing up her thesis and about to start her internship. ‘I am already looking for PhD-positions in Wageningen.’

Kohra is a social person. ‘I love singing, dancing, travelling, meeting new people, making friends and cooking for them.’ Some of those activities have become more difficult to do since the start of the corona pandemic. ‘It is a bit sad, but I try to make the best of a bad situation. I keep in touch with my friends, and I do many extracurricular activities for they make me feel better. I like doing many things; I love multitasking. For Resource, I will write personal blogs about my daily life.’

Organic approach

For her thesis, Kohra is studying the suppression of nematodes in tomatoes. ‘I am looking for organic approaches to protect the plants. In the future, I see myself working for plant protection companies. Currently, I am analysing the results of my research and interpreting my data. It is a lot, so I am going crazy these days, but I have to finish it all by the end of February, for in March, I will start my internship. There, I will look at pest control.’

After graduation, Kohra would like to continue studying nematodes. ‘I want to do more research in that field, so I am already looking for PhD-positions in Wageningen.’

Canals everywhere

‘Wageningen is so international. You can meet so many people from so many different countries. That’s what I love about this city. Also, the study atmosphere is a great and positive environment for students. Actually, I really like the Netherlands in general. There are canals everywhere; that’s super beautiful to me. Water attracts life. I have visited many places, like Zaandam, Utrecht, Leiden, Den Bosch and more. Since corona, I try to explore places closer to Wageningen, sometimes by bike.’
