Every day is now a virtual open day at uni

Starting today, upcoming students who still need to make a choice of programme will have the opportunity to pay the university a virtual visit around the clock. The platform that was opened for the Online Open Day twice a year will henceforth remain permanently open.

From November 2015 on, Wageningen University & Research has held the Online Open Day twice a year on a special platform. Today, it is held for the fifth time. This event is meant to help students – international students in particular – who still need to make a choice of study programme to get acquainted with the programmes offered and with the WUR campus itself. Last year, an immersive video was launched, allowing the potential students to look around in The Spot, University Sports Centre de Bongerd and various lecture halls.

On the previous occasions, the platform was closed after one day, explains Debby Los of Marketing & Digital. ‘As of tomorrow, it will remain available to everyone, giving students who are still searching for a programme the opportunity to experience their own online open day whenever they want. We have gathered so much beautiful material on the platform, it would be a shame to make it available for only a couple of days a year. Besides, considering the time zones, it can sometimes be difficult to reach all students that are still looking for a programme.’

The university will still have set points in time when live online events will be organised on the platform, Los says, but those will be of smaller scale. In between those events, all vlogs, blogs, videos and infographics will remain online and available.

About 1750 people have registered for today’s open day. The question always remains how many people will actually log on, but Los expects around 1250 potential students to visit. ‘They will have the chance to watch new videos of the master’s programmes, follow a practical course and ask the study choice coaches questions live.’
