If you are curious about life inside Wageningen’s various student houses, you should check out the Studentenstad Wageningen Instagram account. Over the past few weeks, a series of video tours have been posted that are reminiscent of a student version of MTV Cribs.

From close-knit man caves with typical student customs and traditions to more relaxed houses where students do their own thing but occasionally chill out together.

The woman who came up with the video tour idea is Francine Sloot (22), Communication & Life Sciences student and responsible for publicity at the Wageningen Chamber of Societies, an umbrella organization that represents Wageningen’s student societies. One of her tasks is to provide the content for Studentenstad Wageningen, an account aimed at promoting Wageningen as a student city.

Beer and brainstorm session

‘When I started this job in January, I wondered how you could give a nice impression of Wageningen in these times. After all, there is not much going on. I got the idea of video tours around student houses because at the moment that’s the focal point of student life.’

Sloot invited Lars Hegeman, who she knows from the Nji-Sri debating society, round for a beer and a brainstorm session. ‘He makes video clips. We worked out a concept together and then posted a call to students. One week later, we had our first student-house video recording.’ There are now five video tours online. ‘Each house is different, with a different group dynamic. That’s what makes it so nice.’ More recording sessions are planned. ‘As long as there are student houses that want to take part, we’ll carry on.’
