Construction of a new western access road to the Wageningen campus will start soon. It will run alongside the bus lane, where there is currently a cycle path. The road is intended to improve accessibility to WUR.
Traffic flow to and from the university has long been a problem. During rush hour, there are often queues of cars waiting to enter or leave the campus. A new access road on the west side of Wageningen University should change this. The new access road will be built on the site of the current cycle path, on the south side of the bus lane.
The cycle path will be moved to the other side (the north side) of the bus lane. In addition, the intersection of Mondriaanlaan and the bus lane will be redesigned, and the sewerage system at Mondriaanlaan will be replaced at the same time.
Starting in October
The work will start on 20 October and will be carried out in three phases. Contractor Van Gelder will start with the construction of the new cycle path on the north side of the bus lane. This cycle path should be completed by 7 November. From 10 November to 16 January, the new access road on the south side of the bus lane will be constructed. Between 5 January and 27 February, the intersection of Mondriaanlaan and the bus lane will be redesigned. Motorists and local residents will experience the most disruption during this final phase, when the road will be closed.
A residents’ meeting will be held on Thursday 18 September, from 6.30 p.m. to 9 p.m., in Impulse.
