The WUR action team will open the academic action year on 1 September, prior to the official Opening of the Academic Year (OAY). ‘If we don’t take action now, there will be no academic years to open in the coming years.

‘The coming academic year (2025/2026) will be a critical year for universities,’ the action team writes in their announcement. ‘After massive cuts of more than 1 billion by the previous cabinet, we will go to the polls on 29 October to elect a new House of Representatives. Investments in higher education and reversing cuts will not simply appear on the political agenda – we must take action to achieve this.’

Prior to the official festivities on 1 September, the action team is organizing a meeting in Axis. There, the FNV trade union will provide an update on the major education campaign later this year. The action team will also showcase successful campaigns from the past that can serve as examples for the upcoming campaigns against the cuts. The action group will then walk together to Omnia, where they will hand out red squares to visitors to the Opening of the Academic Year.
